rebelling without a cause. rambling without a mind
I hate procrastinating.
Unfortunately it has become my forte. damn u lazy genes. so to not feel anymore useless than i probably am, i am faithfully turning to my blog. i dont care if im the only one who reads it and laugh to myself after reading its completed post. its my theraphy. ive run out of money to shop. this is my alternative. for now huuhuu.

My pop culture lecturer was talking about sex& gender in modern day asia. and while others were probably having a full blown orgasm in their heads with the things being thrown about in the room. i began to wonder. Modern day asia? what does that mean? does it even exist? and if it does, by whos standards? who decides asia being modern and what makes it modern? a close pitiful and obedient follow to the western model of social conducts? economical standars? moral beliefs?

why the west as a model? because they are an older civilisation? then why not china or india or middle eastern countries for that matter? or is it because they gave us mcdonalds and starbux and jeans and wonder bras and ipods and psp's and bla bla bla..
and what is so wrong with that? following the west as a form of a modern community. if it means a more satisfied society, a more active consumer, what's all the fuss about? why are scholars so busy defending the "asian-ness" of asian countries when its pretty obvious asians love this sinful act of consuming and don't really give a rat's ass if it blurs the distinction between their imaginary nationhood/nationalism identity and that of the identitiy of the wets (oopss west.punn might or might not be intended)

Does it matter to be identified as an asian or a westerner? why not just be identified as an asian person who just happens to favour the fashion/taste/lifestyle of a western individual? or is it an absolute must to hold on to your asian identity because in the end that is what makes you different from the rest? but do you really want to be different? from my knowledge (which unfortunately is not grand) societies have long reject the different. the unknown. because the fear of not knowing/not used to what they are facing is just to great to handle. demolish the threat. so-called enemy.

what is asian anyway? eating with your hands/chopsticks? don't westerners eat their kfc with their fingers? or burgers or chips or ice cream or pizzas with their fingers as well? and doesnt everyone use their fingers for other more pleasurable activities too? yes i was going there then decided im not in an explicit-mind mood tonight. so moving along...
my point is. im confused. and i have a feeling most of us are. why do we indulge ourselves in thoughts such as 'localism' or 'globalization' or westernization or modernization'? if it menas making us feel/sound more intellectual then we must be fooling ourselves. because we're just adding up to the whole pile of theories which poses more questions without ever attempting to answer it (because if they do, god forbid some other scholars would come up with other theories to justify their own understanding of the situation and it just goes on and on) and we would probably end up dying not ever knowing what the hell we were arguing/defending about in the first place.
I'm not saying the scholars & their work is just a waste of time & ink & trees. all im saying is that everyone has an opinion. everyone has their own theory on things. and if you dont agree with what others say. well that's your right. & no one should impose anything on you.

sadly a totally free & independent society is wishful thinking. but we can still make do. i love my country. one part of the world thinks its a radical-islamic nation, the other part of the world thinks its a confused country masking itself behind a modern-islamic facade. i think its a country which minds its own business. Shes happy, her people are happy (on the surface so far) she has mcdonalds in all her states, starbux in most of em yet still enjoy meals by roadsides and huge congested drains. We have no idea what our real identity is (apart from the commercial one our govt conveniently protrays to the world. but im not complaining). Yet we love this. the fact that we're a hybrid of tiny million pieces of lost & new cultures, beliefs and customs moulded together for the convenience of all.

The study of postmodern culture, localism, nationalism, westernization, globalisation and and the ism ism ism i do not know of is a hugely complex one. and although very mind-drilling and amusing, sometimes its nice to just sit-back and enjor your life rather than harping on and on about a so-called phenominal fear we're not certain might or might not happen.

Curiosity killed the cat. and im not ready for death just yet.

What ive written is a pure case of crap decorated by words to seem acceptable. yet it is by no means ligitimate or valid. hoohoo.
