Open your eyes

buka mata
buka hati
kenali diri
ok so i was watching rtm.. this is not an excuse but astro disappointed me by being the sissy that it is when the wind blows a lil too strong and rain teases it wh its presence.
i get annoyed
with the fact that when it rain is when tv becomes your loyal companion
but astro disappears.
vanishes
pfffttt
anyway
so i was watching rtm2 and there was this show on how ppl who visited the batik factory were so amazed by our culture but at the same time distraught by our conscience.. on cleanliness, health and just simple public morals.
the camera strategically went under the tables and into drains to show how we smart modern malaysians know where to throw our rubbish.. on the floor, on the chairs, and some of us who were born geniuses stuff them in little drain holes and flower pots.. coz the whole idea of throwing rubbish is for it not to be seen by the naked eye.. ahahah we are oh so creative.
it was a short program. maybe i caught the last bit of it. or maybe it was just one of those P.A's but whatever it was, although it failed to deliver a smack across malaysian faces like it intended to.. it did send out a lil sting.
small sting
but still a sting
and like all stings.. it tends to be annoying and stays there for quite sometime
as it has proved itself now that i cannot seem to erase that particular rtm show off my mind.
and im not trying to diss rtm more than i should (and deserve to as a malaysian.. come on we can do so much better!!), i appreciate the fact that of all programs, its the one i despise most that really opened-up my eyes.
But while it opened up my eyes, it also opened up my mind.. and got to thinking that maybe the reason why we never get these rtm's "friendly" public reminders is because it tries so hard to be friendly. nice. polite.. when in actual fact we malaysians are not. at least not to one another when it comes to traffic and queues and telephone operators and information desks and end-of year sales.
what im hoping is that rtm gives us a taste of our own medicine. be harsh and rude and morbid and get in our faces as much as you can because honestly.. it does only take that much to make us realise what we're doing to our country.
its not that we don't love our country. a man in my life once said that a citizen never shows its roots until the time comes for its nationhood to be protected, and patriotism then becomes his forte.
so show us how screwed-up we are, how ignorent we can be, how stagnant we choose to stay.
maybe we are so used to being told what to do, so caught-up in a sphere where positive images has dilluted our thoughts into thinking we are positive, we are good.. thus we are NOT doing anything wrong.
show us the truth
so we can change
if we don't see a problem
we don't see a reason.
buka mata, buka hati, kenali diri
we need to know who we really are.
